Ship Reviews

Embarkation: We booked 11am - 11.30am boarding time. Received a text message a couple of days before to say can’t board until 12 now and won’t be allowed in the terminal. Well we arrived by 11 am as had already purchased our transfer and couldn't change it and we were allowed in the terminal! Went straight through check-in and security up to the hall to where you board and then we were all held there until about 11.45 packed in like sardines! We wonder now if this was because people were delayed getting off due to immigration as we were also stopped getting off at the end of the cruise because they closed one of the terminals as it was too full. We wasn't allowed in the cabins until 2pm - key card was on the door Had to go to guest Services to get one for each other's cabins which proved very handy. Dining: We only went to 150 Central Park out of the specialist Dining. I had Potato leek soup which was okay - Sunchoke Veloute Braised short rib starter dad said it was very nice indeed Main was Roasted tenderloin beef - very nice piece of beef - not like the fatty stuff you get in the main dining room! Fried Cheesecake without the Nutella desert was 2 little donuts filled with the cheesecake filling and 2 dollops of whipped cream and Ice cream The rest of the time we ate in the windjammer or the main dining room. Our waiters in MDR were very nice but it was often a very long wait for the food and it was often cold. I prefer the Windjammer. Jonny rockets had free breakfast - only 3 items were chargeable altho it wasn’t advertised as free it had the $ symbol probably to put people off going there! Dazzles lounge has OJ and covered cookies in the morning after breakfast we noticed one morning whilst passing by. The little Donut place deck 6 has nice strong OJ and water, also milk. Yeah Just mini donuts here about 4 choices. Not for me but did try once. My Whippy or soft service just needed a flake! Was yummy. Drinks - asking for two different drinks on each card seem to confuse most of the staff!! One lady in the Windjammer used to write the order down. Cabin: This was the dirtiest balcony cabin I’ve stayed in for a long time. I spent some time cleaning with my wet wipes. Dusty wardrobe shelves and rail, the bathroom toilet roll holder was just disgusting! Pillows were all very lumpy for some reason and not flat, whether they've washed them I don't know. A few days in my stateroom attendance managed to find me a soft pillow 50% feathers 50% down. Not enough high storage for me. I used wardrobe compartments for most of my clothes. The chair had dirt on it and the sofa looked like people allowed their children to jump all over it with muddy feet. Wasn't something you wanted to sit on! Doors - you need to enter card in slot to open but then don’t need one to keep lights on etc like you do with some. The shower head was pouring out from all angles on the side of the showerhead, clearly it's been dropped and the middle setting was boiling hot, the coldest setting was about the right temperature so I asked them to sort that on day two which they did but as soon as I touched it the end of the control fell off. Then it was just cold, and they put it back to what it was before so it's still not right! Toilet seat was wonky from the start but couldn't be bothered to report that. It's a bit disappointing you have to report these issues that should be obvious to cabin stewards. Clearly no supervisor checking them. The hairdryer plug was coming apart also. Rather than put the DND magnet on for when you don’t want to be disturbed and remove it when out, my steward insisted I had to put the magnet on the wall. Sockets for charging - one round socket with 3 holes which take the flat adapter from the UK, not the round one! I tried bringing one with the USB which works on this charging both with plug and USB. General: Day 1 we got in one elevator only to be told sorry this is a priority elevator and got kicked out despite the fact my dad is with disabled walking sticks. We were make to walk around the other side of the windjammer rather than allowed to go in the middle - again no thought about the disabled! There were hand sanitisers so I'm not sure what the issue was. Speaking of which there was sinks at the main entrance to the windjammer and whilst there was somebody standing there hand sanitisation or washing was not enforced which it should be! My on board Credit was not applied so I had to waste a couple of hours sorting out with guest services back on the fourth with emails. This happens a lot so worth taking a screenshot of emails. Cruise compass Dad’s large print cruise compass that I requested via the special needs prior to the cruise was hit n miss - we got large print some days and others just the standard ones. Apparently you have to ask for the cruise compass now but after the first day mine was left on the cabin door. Clocks went forwards at 2pm on 6 days this cruise. Yes during the day and not overnight. We didn't mind this but because we had dinner at 5 pm it technically meant 4 pm so you really have to have a very late lunch or eat in the windjammer or elsewhere later. Day 3 at 2pm Wednesday Day 4 at 2 pm Thursday Day 6 at 2pm Saturday Day 7 at 2pm Sunday Day 9 at 2pm Tuesday Day 10 at 2pm Wednesday Wi-Fi: $31.99 per day if you want a one off 24 hour pass. Otherwise it was $29.99 per day for the full 12 days! Daylight robbery springs to mind. Had 2 days each as diamond plus so managed to eak out between us. If you click on the RC app and click internet, then click purchase, then continue to purchase and scroll down where it shows the prices, at the bottom is free sites and you can get onto royal C to page up cruises for example for free! Never known this in all my years cruising! Many of the elevators didn’t work whe pressing the flood numbers both sides And some were totally blank one side. Also a lot of the call buttons on each deck were broken so had to press the other side. Wait time wasn’t too long. When it was it was caused by people pressing the button when the elevators were full and not letting them get away so the doors kept opening and closing! Entertainment Aqua theatre show - obviously highly skilled but I thought the show on Oasis was far superior. We watched that every night but this one we found once was enough! We booked on day one because we had a feeling if the sea was rough they wouldn't perform however it particularly rough but apparently the swell was enough for them not perform again until Spain. Ice show - skaters put their own routine together so not a show as such as seen on previous cruises. All very talented. Casino: Wasn’t impressed that we only had to the next day to claim our free casino credit - very naughty! This never used to be the case. The main casino has smoke coming out the entrance and was impossible to walk through as it was that bad. The non-smoking casino was quite small. Tried a couple of Machines but they basically drink your money quicker and then we could drink a glass of water! No fun. Jogging track on deck 5 was quite popular and actually one of my favourite places on deck. We did a lap walking after dinner and it was surprisingly sheltered from the breeze with all the life boats. The overhead signs are quite amusing! Worth noting that on Deck 15 outside it was deserted in the evening and even at 9pm by the solarium it was warm enough to be sitting out although a little breezy at times. “Stowaway” owls: You may have seen this in the media. I was lucky to see one of the owls in person. He/she was out posing for photos by the park café in the garden in Central Park. It was often outside sunning itself. Apparently burrowing owls do that. They became quite a topic of conversation. One of the staff at the bar said there's also an owl by the golf on deck 15. One evening he was in one of the low trees and as I walked past I must've scared him because he flew up into the tree by the chess set. I had no idea he was there so we both jumped and scared each other. Apparently they were captured, fed steak and water and offloaded when we finally reached our first port and flown back to Miami. I did see either the same owl or another one the day after capture in Central Park. According to some posts online one of them escaped and took soje time to be caught. Sally as they're not native to Spain they had to be captured and returned to Miami. First class travel as those on board will know what I'm talking about! Disembarkation: RC were charging $29 to Barcelona airport on board. Transfers left at 6:30 am which was the earliest departure time for everyone for flights from 10am to 12 and 8:30am departure for late flights after 12 o'clock. Also 8:30 am to the train station. We could stay cabins until 8:30am - not sure if that was usual or because there was nobody else getting on as it went for a refurb. They closed one of the terminals as it was too full for immigration. We didn't leave the ship until around 11 am. We were down to leave at 9:30am being the latest departure it was much much later. We didn't mind because we were just going to the hotel for a couple of days so we couldn't check in anyway. Overall we enjoyed the cruise very much. Weather was quite warm and the seas were really quite calm. Occasionally there was a little bit of swell but we didn't really notice it to be honest having cruised to Iceland a couple of times - which is something I wouldn't recommend!

We took our son and his family on this cruise out of Barcelona. Boarding was simple and easy. Our rooms were ready by 1:00pm. Problem - I had made dinner reservations for 7:00pm anytime dining for 7 of us. It didn't appear on our daily planner so I checked with dinner reservations only to learn they changed our time without notifying me. When we questioned it, we were told to come at 6:30pm which was acceptable but each time we went to dinner, they asked if we talked to the maitre d like who approved this! Anyway, we were seated quickly each time. One thing I didn't like about the dinner were most large tables were rectangle, not round. For 7 people 1 person is out of the loop. Food was sometimes good and sometimes bad. The prime rib was terrible but the salmon was good. We had only 1 sea day so we knew we would be busy. The ports and our tours were great. The room was a balcony facing the boardwalk. The room was great but I wouldn't book that again as the shows and entertainment on the boardwalk was very loud and late into the night. There is a lot to do for kids and our grandchildren loved it. The water show and Mama Mia were terrific. We had a 7pm flight home and had to be off the ship by 9:30am. We did not get any help from Royal Caribbean as what options we had. Just told us you have to get off by 9:30am. At the port is a Gab n Go were you can drop you luggage and they will take it to the airport for you. 2 bag min. Great service as then we spent the day in Barcelona and later to the airport.

  • FAMILY TIME - No doubt about it – our ships are built for families. Get together for festivals, poolside games, physical challenges, karaoke nights, theme nights and more.
  • FAMILY-TIME DINING - My Family Time Dining is offered for the first seating time in our main dining room, for children of ages three to 11.
